N95 V12 Key press bug

Posted on July 13th, 2007 by Dave.
Categories: Uncategorized.

A warning to anyone thinking of upgrading to the V12 firmware – A BIG problem with the latest firmware that many people are complaining about is that the N95 “misses” keys being pressed after about every 20 key presses. After pressing the key the 2nd time it registers fine. VERY annoying.

Also the gallery button briefly lights up when the screen saver kicks in..

Nokia N95 V12 Firmware Changes

Posted on July 10th, 2007 by Dave.
Categories: Uncategorized.

Finally got my N95 back, with new screen and case (without the wobble, now!) I upgraded to the v12 firmware last night and noticed the following changes:

  • “Default” theme (white/blue) is gone. The only theme I used. I’m having to use the blue “Nokia” theme at the moment until I can find a copy of it.
  • Power save timeout, the settings for the screensaver have changed, you can now set it to timeout after 5 seconds.
  • Media key now works when a recurring alarm is set
  • Phone feels a bit more responsive
  • A-GPS makes getting a lock on to satellites a lot quicker – even indoors

If you’ve got any more changes, add them below..

New v5 N80 Firmware and New N95 v12 Firmware

Posted on June 21st, 2007 by Dave.
Categories: Uncategorized.

New firmware for the N80 is not available. This is a major version update (v4 – v5.0719.0.2). No word on the fixes, but I’ll be trying this with my old phone later.

Also, the N95 gets an update to v12.0.013. This includes assisted GPS (AGPS) which should speed up the lock-on times for GPS.. Can’t be too hard! I haven’t been able to get hold of this yet as my N95 is in for repair. The screen has gone kaput. (here’s hoping it can’t be fixed and I get a nice new one *without* a rocking slider!)

Nokia N95 Camera Rotation Sensor

Posted on June 11th, 2007 by Dave.
Categories: Uncategorized.

A nice feature of the N95 is that it records the orientation of the phone when you take a picture. If you hold the camera horizontal and take a photo, then take the same photo with the phone vertical. The gallery application will show both photos the same way up. Shame it can’t use this feature in the same way that the new iPhone does..

Multimedia Key not working or works intermittently on the N95

Posted on May 23rd, 2007 by Dave.
Categories: Uncategorized.

Having problems with the multimedia menu not showing when you press the multimedia key? (The big key between the red button an the direction pad). It seems this is caused by having a recurring alarm set on the phone.

The problem can be fixed temporarily by re-booting the phone (but will reappear sooner or later), or the permanent fix is to turn off the recurring alarm.
