Hi, I am just wondering if this works with all firmware types? I have the hong kong version (.46) . And if it does will I use the pearl black code ( I have the black n80) or the other?
Thank You.

Hi, Ive tried following the info above but having trouble downloading the gsm-magic program.
For some reason it comes through as a ‘rar file’ and defaults as a real player file and tries to play but wont ! any ideas what im doing wrong ?
Comment on November 9th, 2006.
Micky – To open RAR files you’ll need a program called WinRAR, you can download an evaluation copy from http://www.rarlabs.com. It works very similar to WinZip.
Pkiddddd – You’ll need the generic product code for a black N80 with chinese. You might be able to find this on the Internet

my firmware current is v4-0.41,,,and my previous version is v3 which contain chinese language,,,however after NSU,,i get not for this language,,
i try to use NSS for re-write the product code change it to asia-pacific code and process NSU,,but jam there,,,,
any solution for re-set language function
thank you

Silky – I’d probably say (if you’re feeling brave) to use the traditional phoenix method to flash the Chinese language firmware to your phone. I’ve not got links to this, so you’ll have to try and find it on the ‘net. Not sure what you mean by it jamming. Maybe try and re-installing the NSS software?
Comment on November 9th, 2006.
NEVER EVER downgrade your firmware, I dont think there are any phones with chinese language packs that are at V4, so I would wait until V4 arrives… If you downgrade even with Phoenix you will brick your phone!
Comment on November 9th, 2006.
I live speak english so do I really need the chinese code or can I just use the euro black? Thanks for the help.

Hi Dave
Thanks a lot for the info, your a star! Using Phenoix I was able to upgrade my o2 v3 to generic V4. Its now working a lot better, dare I say it, like a phone ![]()
My question is, one of the reasons why I got the N80 was the new internet edition with sip client built-in Using NSS can I change the code to the internet edition, (is that the black pearl code). Has anyone tried this? Whats the new software life?

No problem. I’ve not managed to find a product code for the N80 Internet Edition so haven’t upgraded to this firmware yet.

Hi, i have updated my Vodafone N80 using the code from this page and it worked perfectly. My phone works perfectly but every now and then a message pops up saying “SIM Registration Failed” I press OK and then my phone carries on as normal. Any one else had this problem?
Comment on November 12th, 2006.
Wow! Fantastic. I just converted my e-bay source O2 simfree but branded phone to Generic Europe 3….and got to the last version of firmware from NSU and then to even newer over FOTA…
Now This article has made my day…

Matt, it might be worth re-flashing the firmware to see if it clears it, or try cleaning the SIM (just in case)..

Hi, I previously used the instructions on this site (the phoenix way) and bricked my Orange N80. This has now been replaced and I have updated to V4 firmware. As you can imagine, I am reluctant to try changing to generic firmware in case I kill my phone again!.
The produce code 0526966 does not seem to be the EURO1 or EURO2 codes that other sites are using and wonder what this is?
Can the people who upgraded their orange phones cnfirm which product code they used with NSS?
Comment on November 23rd, 2006.
Thanks for this blog. I’ve used the instructions to upgrade my 6680.
Getting an N73 shortly. Can you post the product codes for this phone.
So once again many thanks.

Worked perfectly for me, cheers m8. Much faster phone without that Vodafone shit on it.

Hi Mike,
I’ve upgraded my Orange N80 without any problems so far, I used product code N80 0526966 for the upgrade. Orange software has finally been wiped out.
Has anyone tried upgrading to the internet edition using it’s product code? If you have, can you pass on the IE product code?
Thanks and good luck Mike.

You can always try the APAC firmware for the N80IE.. No guarantees it’s the version you’re looking for, though!

Will an update in firmware require that I reinstall all of my existing stored apps on my phone? Will I also need to backup everything before I update my firmware?
Comment on January 5th, 2007.
If you use Phoenix to upgrade you will definitely have to re-install all your apps, I’ve never done an upgrade on my N80 with the NSU so can’t say. To be on the safe side, back up any important data.

Hi!
This tutorial it’s really great! Thanks a lot for your time to publish it and share this with the masses.
I have a N80, V4.0623.0.42 (RM-92), and tried to use the process you described to change the Product code to Euro1, so I can update it to N80ie. The problem is, the NSS does not show what product code I have when clicking on “read”. I used the “write” button to set the code 0539363 for Euro1, but nothing changed (when I use NSU it says I’m already at the latest version).
Any ideas? My cable is CA-53, that came with the phone.

Ok, I’ve not got a problem changing the product code, as it seems to work easily enough on my 3UK branded N80 (RM-92).
However, no-matter which Euro Product code I use, the NSU fails to find an appropriate upgrade. It recognises the phone ok, but then it goes to try and find the suitable software update and subsequently fails.
On the original Product code, all I get is that my software is fully up to date.
The current version of FW is 4.0623.0.41.
Anybody got any ideas?

Hi there. I´m trying to upgrade my N80 to IE, but I´m a little scared of what may happen to my phone. I´ve been reading about the flashing, and I´ve been searching for the right code to write on to it. But the thing is that my original code is: 0535949 which is none of the above shown. I think its important to notice I´m from Chile, Southamerica. And the phone original vendor was Movistar. I unlocked the phone via IMEI, to use it with ENTEL (other company). But I don´t know if my phone will be able to connect to either of the phone networks if I flash it with another code. Right now, my FW version is: 4.0623.0.41 date: 26-07-2006 RM-92 Nokia N80 (60.01).
Is there anyone who can help me out with these doubts?
Thanks in advance for you time and help.

Ok, I did it… nice and clean upgrade… just used 2 programs: NSS and NSU.
First I changed my N80 code to: 0539363 and then ran the NSU.
It updated in about 10 minutes to the latest firmware: 4.0707.0.7
Now I have VoIP and I installed Fring (www.fring.com), so now I’m able to make calls over Skype, use msn messenger, GoogleTalk, and many other things. Not to mention that now I can recive my gmail emails on the phone. Just the thing I needed.
I’ve been reading though, that this latest version appears to have many bugs. So long I haven’t got any trouble. I’m happy with the results. Thanks for all the help and info on the Nokia N80 / The best phone ever.
