Nokia Release Official Flashing Program

Nokia have finally released their own software called Nokia Software Update , which will allow users to update their phone’s firmware at home. This is a lot easier than using Phoenix - and I’d imagine a bit safer to use. I’ve not had a chance to use it yet as it says my phone’s software is up-to-date. I’ll be updating my mate’s N80 later so I’ll post the results. It supports oldee phones too (N70, 6680, 6630) so I’ll try with my old 6630 as well.

One down-side I can see to this method is that it will insist on using operator-specific firmware..

If you want to download a copy yourself (free) go to: http://www.nokia.co.uk/softwareupdate

I was having a look at your screen shots and noticed that you could update the N80. I went to the nokia software update site and the N80 was not mentioned. How were you able to update the N80??

I tested this with my phone, which already has the v4 firmware on. After searching for updates, the program said “No current updates available” - which I assumed was because I had the latest firmware. I tried later with a friend`s v3 N80, and it said the same thing so I’m guessing they`re still rolling out the firmware for some models..

cheers mate. I’ll download all the software to update to v4 manually.

I have had a bit of a problem with downloading the firmware from the link you gave me. A more reliable source I found was from gsmhosting here at http://www.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=325325

Hope it helps
