Hi, what about the Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver? The one that is in spanish that we had to install last time? I have got as far as running Phoenix and setting up USB, but when I plug in phone XP can’t find any drivers. The old driver package I installed last time I flashed following your instructions doesn’t work now and gives an error message when i run it.
Any ideas?

Hi thanks for the guide, though in the end I followed the ‘BB5 Reaper’ guide as you haven’t included links or any info about installing the new Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver. I think you should update it because I couldn’t connect the phone until I found the latest driver (link obtained from the BB5 Reaper program). Dunno how you guys did it without that!
Also, When I scanned my phone, the ‘operating mode’ was set to RF-inactive, so I changed that to ‘Normal’. Dunno if this is linked to leaving the SIM card in, which I did NOT do.
When clicking start flashing, I was told the product codes did not match (seperate error to prommer error), but continued anyway and all was fine. I also used ‘EURO 2 STAINLESS’
I used different a cracked phoenix.exe and .dll which was not indicated in your guide.
Other than that thank you for your guide it was very helpful, especially back in the day with the last upgrade.
Cheers!
Cheers

Hi guys,
I`m not sure why I didn`t need the Nokia connectivity driver, all I used was Diego and Phoenix! I had PC suite installed on my PC before flashing, it may have left some drivers on the system which it used. If you`ve got a link to the Connectivity Cable Driver I can add this to the guide.
Thanks for the top about the Operating mode. I`ve always had it set to normal by default so I`ve not really played with that.

Hi Dave :
First, really thanks for such a usefull web about N80.
I wish to know is the firmware v4.0623.0.41 is operator-free, so I mean, useful for any country.
I can not download the firmware, it seems the password to the FTP link is not correct. May you help me with this ?
Best regards,
Francesc

Please try this link for Diego:
http://www.4shared.com/file/1509393/ead7be00/diego_307.html
The firmware is unbranded, but it won’t unlock your phone if it is locked to a specific network.
Comment on September 12th, 2006.
I’ve added alternative links to Diego and firmware now, hopefully these will work.

Confirmed working. It took me more then 5 minutes, aprox 10-12 I think. I used an old PIII with only 128mb memory though
Thanks!!

I just bought an N80 and feel jealous of the internet edition coming out soon! Will this firmware hack work from 3.0617.0.6 firmware? Also does it allow the N80 to tie into SIP networks… does this need some client software? The internet edition can do it!!

Thanks worked great!!!! These are very clear and easy to follow instructions. I appreciate people like you who help everyone else out.

Unfortunately, every time I follow the instructions and install Phoenix, when I go to run it, it almost immediately dies with a null exception error and up comes the handy window offering to report the error to MS, which I politely decline. I used the files I downloaded from the links here as well as another identical set I found elsewhere all packaged together, and both give the same error. I have rebooted a few times and switched off the spyware and other crap to make sure there was no interference (not my PC, I use a Mac most of the time and my XP machine is not at SP1 or SP2). Anyone see this problem before of Phoenix, installed as indicated here, dies with a null exception almost immediately on start up?

Howdy,
The 2 links for the firmware from dogtoe site and rapidshare aren’t working for me.
Is it possible to host this somewhere else or tell me where else it is available.
Thanx!

Chad,
Never seen that eerror message before. It might be worth waiting for Nokia to release the firmware using the Nokia Software Updater: http://www.seventy4.co.uk/weblog/2006/08/22/nokia-release-official-flashing-program-2/

Tread with care.
I’ve just followed the instructions (which to be fair, are pretty accurate and easy to follow!) and killed my N80.
Was upgrading to latest v4 firmware and everything had gone to plan and the phone was being flashed. Right at the end of the process, you have to restart the phone for it to complete.
My phone (on a Vodafone contract) would not restart - the screen lights up white and the blue led flashes, but no start-up logo or pin request.
To be honest, it was begining to drive me mad and I wasn’t far off replacing it, but if you’re not then a trip to the CPW might be the safer option.
Comment on October 9th, 2006.
You shouldn’t have to restart your phone yourself! Phoenix will do this for you. You shouldn’t unplug, or touch the phone until you seen the main screen. Unplugging part-way through the flashing process can kill your phone. It may still be rescueable:

NB: Remember to select the right product type first! (See under the battery).

Hi. The Nokia SW update won’t help me as I seem to have a generic HK Chinese FW (V 3.0617.0.6 03-05-2006 RM-92 Nokia N80 (46.02) ) and it says that no updates are found, so I need to flash it at least once with the Phoenix bit to the generic European one then it should in the future find updates, I would think. I will try installing XP from scratch on a new disk just in case something is interfering with it. (And yes, I did download the very latest Nokia SW update thing that supposedly supports the N80). Thanks!

Riscos:
Bom mãos a obra então!!!!!!!!
1. Desinstalar Nokia PC Suite (se possui Instado) “Não plugue o USB ainda”

19. Fechar o Fênix 2004 que você havia minimizado (no passo 17).
20. Re-abrir Phoenix (Área de trabalho). E vá em Help > About você verá a versão 2006. (Se não tiver 2006, Parar! E instalar tudo denovo.)

27. No Phoenix abra File> Manage Connections. (Foto)
28. Vá agora no menu Flashing>SW Update, o produto é scaneado.

Hi. Thanks for the great guide. I have successfully updated my Vodafone UK branded Nokia N80 from V 3.0614.0.3 to a non branded V 4.0623.0.42
I must admit I was a bit nervous as I havent actually found anyone on the net who had claimed to have done this successfully with a Vodafone UK N80 but it all went well and am so far happy with it.
I have yet to use it in anger so dont know what improvements there are yet. I am looking forward to trying out TomTom on it.
Cheers!!!

When i install Phoenix, everything goes ok. But then at the end of installation when it registers the components it gives me an error message “DESKey not found” and i cant click ok as it stays stuck. Ive done this loads of times now and everytime the same thing happens.
Any ideas?

Try the new guide that I’ve posted today on the front page. This should step you through it.. I think it’s just a timing issue with installing the dongle crack at the moment when you press retry.

Hey Dave,
Thanks for the quick reply. Still same problem. It installs fine. But when it gets to registering the components at the end of installation you mention i should recieve two errors and click OK on both. But i cant click OK not even on the first one as it stays stuck and then stops responding. Any ideas? Or is there another way i can register these components?
Thanks

but if its slider is close it can be controlled. is it a hardware prob or software?
Comment on February 5th, 2008.
hi hazellete, my n80 has just started doing the exact same thing. open it and it goes blank or fuzzy. close it and it works. i find if you put a little sideways pressure on the top half of the phone it works. i think that there is a worn connection in side the phone. my contract has just finished so i’m going to dump mine.
Comment on February 5th, 2008.
hi again hazelette, it is the ribbon that connects the 2 parts of the phone that worn or broken. it can be repaired for around £30. most repair guys do it.
