N80 Hangs when sending SMS Text Messages

My N80 has been starting to get slower and slower when sending a text. And with 1750 free ones to ‘use up’ each month. Waiting over 30 seconds to send one can seem like a lifetime. I thought it may be down to some “suspicious” software on my phone, but I noticed my friend’s N80 was doing the same thing (if not worse).

So I tried resetting the phone settings (type *#7370# from the main screen - have a backup first!) and formatting the phone. It did the trick! It now sends and pauses for about a second instead of 30.

To format your phone, first BACK UP EVERYTHING. As this will wipe the phone data (not your memory card). You will lose calendar details, contacts, settings and anything stored on the phone. I use the PC Suite to back up contacts and calendar items to Outlook, rather than using the phone’s built in backup tool as I find this seems to back up any problems as well.

  1. Turn off your phone
  2. Press and hold the GREEN (send) key, the * key and the 3 key and then turn the phone on keeping green, * and 3 held down.
  3. After about 45 seconds - 1 minute you will be prompted for your time zone and to enter the date and time (you can let go now!).
  4. The phone will start up normally and should hopefully be a bit quicker.
  5. Put all your settings back on!

My N80 startet working again, after my dealer restored it with a fresh Sw. But after a few weeks. its gettin’ slower and slower. with the Sms. Sometimes the Camera does’nt work2…

Any Ideas…

Some people suggest putting the phone into GSM mode (rather than Dual / 3G mode) and turning down the log to 1 or 10 days rather than 30 can help. Mine’s still running fine at the moment. Have you tried a reset by doing *#7370# and formatting as in the main article?

I have had the same issue with SMS but also wondering if anyone has had these additional issues:
1. the browser stops working with “web already in use”
2. my nokia bluetooth CK1 handsfree kit keeps loosing sound it rings through the carkit but I cant here the other party and they can’t hear me

these problems are fixed with the *#7370# fix, but have had to do it twice in the past 3 days (as long as I have owned the phone) FW: 3.0617.0.6

Sounds like a serious problem, I’d contact your provider or the store where you bought it and ask for a replacement. Have you installed any extra software on to the phone? It might also be that..

i had pretty much the same problem but a little worse…. mine was freezing up for about 3 minutes per text message!!! all i had to do was upgrade the firmware on it using the Nokia Software Upgrader which can be found on the nokia website.. works perfect now, no problems since

Phone asks for a “lock cde” Ater i type *#7370#
So what is it ??
Tryed the Software Upgrader on the Nokia Website, but dosen’t seem to get anywhere when the USB lead is connected. Just says searching for phone ,then when it’s found it doesen’t seem to down load anyhting ?!
May just try Nokia N95 . Any problems there ?

I have some games downloaded to the phone and am having this problem will reseting the phone erase the games as i cant see where to move them to the memory card

I have come across this problem before and it seems to be a known error in the Series60 phones. Goto this link and download this little file and all will be well. (Better than formatting etc) Ignore the N80 part as it should work on all.

Ive suffered the 3 minute hang when sending texts for 6 months .A freind has another nokia with the same problem . I bluetoothed the numbers to another phone and did the 7370 fix .The phone hung so i took the battery out and started up with the three keys pressed . It worked fine and problem has gone . 385 numbers bluetoothed back across in no time and it was up and running . Thanks for taking the time to post it ,Greg
