I’ve tinkered with the code for the original 1.0 of the bbc iplayer software so it no longer insists on player shows over wifi. Find yourself a copy of the original (here: http://gerrymoth.googlepages.com/iplayer.wgz).
Rename it to a “.zip” file extract the content and edit the file called “app-min.js” in the iplayer/js/ folder using notepad.
Search for this string: data.response.IP_CONNTYPE===”wifi”&&data.response.IP_IS_UK_COMBINED===”yes”
and delete this part:
data.response.IP_CONNTYPE===”wifi”&&
Save the file.
Go up the folders and zip up the “iplayer” folder again. Rename it to a .wgz file and install it on to your phone.

It’s finally been done! You can use TomTom on your N95 using just the internal GPS receiver.
http://w15.easy-share.com/1700400356.html
Installation Notes :
1) Install 1.bt.sisx. Run it. It should say “Device added”
At this point you can also uninstall it - it is no longer needed.
2) Install 2.GPSd.jar. Run this prior to starting TomTom IMPORTANT!
3) Install 3.tomtom.sisx
4) Copy the TomTom folder from the 0.Copy.To.MEMCARD.Root.rar
to the root of your memory card.
5) Run TomTom. Choose Yes when it asks you to switch on bluetooth. Go to Change preferences, Show GPS status, Configure, Other Bluetooth GPS receiver, and select the
BiNPDA GPS.
* You need to change the preferences every time you start tomtom. It won’t
remember that you were using the internal GPS*
* If you need to switch from internal, to an “external” receiver, you may need
to click on “tomtom receiver”, and then “other receiver” to get the list of devices again.

If you’ve restored your settings from your memory card backup after updating your N95, you can get the new menu structure (including folder icons) by installing this file:

You will need to re-boot after installing.

This firmware is now available for (at least) generic European models. It includes the much-appreciated demand paging. RAM available after boot-up is about 30MB. Applications launch faster, and a lot more can be left running at the same time. The update is available through NSU (Nokia Software Update).
Other improvments include speeding up the camera, the key-press bug is now gone for good, faster boot-ups, new N-Gage software, new menu structure, VIDEO RING TONES, and more..
From the Nokia Site:
This software version includes battery, stability & performance improvements enabling you to run faster and longer - giving you up to three more hours of music (up to 30% increase, from 9h to 12h of music playback). This release also includes a new version of Nokia Maps which provides faster positioning, faster Map Loader, and free 3-day navigation. Free N-Gage demo games are included and other games are available via Download! With the Nokia Music Store now live in the United Kingdom, users can enjoy the convenience of instant over-the-air downloads, regardless of where they are.

I was sent a copy of the RotateMe 2 beta today, and it’s taking shape nicely. There’s a few quirks where i rotates when it shouldn’t (putting it on an almost flat surface in a certain way sometimes confuses it, as does knocking the phone). Once nice touch is that it stops rotating when the keypad is locked.

Neat little app showing just how accurate the N95’s accelerometer is!
http://research.nokia.com/projects/activity_monitor
This has meant iPhone-like auto-rotation is coming soon. From the people that brought you RotateMe for the N80 - they’re releasing RotateMe 2 for the N95:
http://www.bysamir.fr/rotateme/
That should save a lot of needless wear and tear on the slider to get the phone to rotate..

Using the crystal case, it’s possible to get the higher capacity battery meant for the newer N95 8GB and US version in to the standard N95:

If, like me, you’ve upgraded to V 12.0.013 of the N95 firmware, you may have noticed the “keypress bug” where random keypresses go un-noticed by the phone. It’s more obvious when texting (letters get missed out) or scrolling through the menus. There is a newer firmware out - V 12.0.014 which is for APAC (Asia, Pacific) models. Reports seem to suggest this fixes the problem with the keypress bug. To get the firmware you’ll need to switch your product code to 053085. Make a note of your current product code before changing.
See this guide for details on how to change your product code.
NB: Changing to this product code will change the fonts used throughout the phone, I personally prefer the original fonts. The menu fonts are bigger, but the texting font is smaller.
